About Us
Our Story
Hi! I’m Beth Haines, and I am the owner of Fisher Farm. As a young suburban child, I was always drawn to the outdoors, but my love of reading introduced me to farming. After a summer of picking organic raspberries in Northern Idaho and then a transformative season apprenticing on an organic vegetable farm in Pennsylvania, I was hooked on farming. I transferred to the University of Maine in Orono and earned a BS in Sustainable Agriculture in 1999.
I am passionate about growing beautiful, delicious, healthy food for the people in my community. I am also deeply concerned with the health of our planet. When we make decisions on the farm, I think it is important to consider the environmental, economic, and social impacts. I believe that way we grow our food can be part of the solution, not just part of the problem.
But I don’t farm here alone! I have an ever evolving amazing team of employees, apprentices, family and community members. I am grateful to everyone who has helped along the way!
My daughter Jane and I live here on the farm in a little homemade house powered by the sun with Kruger, our goofy terrier mix. When we are not farming, we try to get out hiking, swimming, and cross country skiing in our beautiful state.
Apprentice Program
Ever wonder what is the best way to learn the skills of organic farming? Do an apprenticeship on an outstanding organic farm! Fisher Farm is currently looking for dedicated, hardworking individuals for the upcoming growing season. Apprentices work alongside farmers every day for hands-on education in all aspects of our diversified family farm. Learn how we plant, weed, harvest and market our 2 acres of vegetables. We take great pride in training the next generation of organic farmers and believe it is important for everybody to be educated in basic food production. We farm because we love the challenge and satisfaction of a hard day's work. If you like hard work and good food and are interested in our apprenticeship program or other work or trade opportunities on the farm, please fill out the form below!
